A police lance corporal shot his wife and father-in-law before taking his own life in incidents that happened in Felda Chempelak, Labis and Kampung Padang Lerek 1, in Johor last night.
The policeman was said to have shot his 26-year-old wife, a clerk at a secondary school in Bandar Tangkak, at about 7.15pm at the quarters of the Felda Chempelak police in Labis, Segamat, first before going to his in-laws house at Kampung Padang Lerek 1, about 90km away.
The suspect, aged 28, was said to be looking for his mother-in-law, but saw his father-in-law instead, who was preparing to go to a mosque, and shot him.
The father-in-law, aged 65, an imam in the village, died at the district hospital at about 8.15pm.
After shooting his father-in-law, the suspect then shot himself.
Meanwhile, a neighbour, who declined to be identified, said he heard gunshots and soon after, the suspect's brother-in-law ran to his house and informed him that the suspect had shot his father.
"I was shocked, but braved myself to enter the house and saw two people lying in a pool of blood," he said, adding that he then contacted the police and called for an ambulance.
Prior to that, the neighbour said he saw the suspect and his three-year-old son arriving at the house in a Proton Wira.
Meanwhile, the bodies of the suspect and his father-in-law were brought to the Ledang District Hospital mortuary here, while a forensics team was conducting its investigation at the crime scene.
Ledang district police chief Supt Harun Idris was also at the scene but declined to give any statement on the incident yet.
