Steadfast Wee Wern stays on course

Low Wee Wern steeled her nerves and battled past jet lag to advance into the China Open quarter-finals. The two-time defending champion had to fly home to Malaysia after her father, Eric Low was hospitalised, and the fatigue from the travels caused her to struggle a little against Rachael Grinham, although Wee Wern managed to edge out 11-4, 7-11, 11-9, 7-11, 11-5. "
I am struggling with the jet lag, most of the girls are coming from the US Open, so the 12 hours difference is hard to cope with. "I am lucky to get through today," said Wee Wern in Squashsite, who will have a daunting task of facing second seed Raneem El Weleily next.
Her teammate and recently crowned US Open champion Nicol David, swept past her first round opponent, China's Li Donglin, 11-6, 11-4, 11-2 to set up a quarter-final meet with India's Dipika Pallikal, who stunned seventh seed Madeline Perry in three games.
